i thought to myself, "holy crap, i totally forgot about this!!... and wait.... the cover... IT'S HORRIBLE!!! the colors the pictures, WTF?!" i commented to the clerk who for the most part has great taste in movies (or we share common favorites) and asked if he had seen it yet. he had not, due to having just returned from tour with his band.
i decided to go with another film that night, but had my sights set on renting it next time in.
i went back a few nights later and rented 'my blueberry nights' much to the chagrin of the other clerk that keeps kool at the store.
what i found was shot upon shot of this:

the quintessential notion that portends drippy lust and imbued blueberry forlornness. great, now i want blueberry pie. its 4th july, who in the hell would have blueberry pie at 3am? i also was taken aback by chan marshall's part--- small and quiet. not sure what mr. kar wai was thinking in his casting process. is he the new woody allen of luring young beautiful women of modest (read: no) acting experience? everything was beautiful as expected, even though kar wai strayed from his tried and true cinematographer. and of course you could pause the movie at any frame and it would be a gorgeous still. jude was fine, the music was lush and languid. the pace creeped slow, rocking chair slow.
i recommend it, if anything to hear rachel weitz give her best southern accent splay.
